On November 18-21, 2022, the 21st International Congress of Accountants (WCOA 2022) was held in Mumbai, India under the slogan  Building Trust Enabling Sustainability, hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

More than 10,000 delegates attended the congress: 6,500 delegates attended in person and over 3,000 connected virtually. More than 1,800 delegates came from 105 countries. Participants could take advantage of over 40 thematic sessions with over 150 speakers. The WCOA in Bombay has become the world's largest congress of accountants since its inception in 1904.

The President of ICAI - Dr. Debashis Mitra - opening the Congress and welcoming the participants, noted that despite the huge linguistic, ethnic and cultural diversity, India is one nation that in 2022 celebrates the 75th anniversary of regaining independence. He emphasized that the accountants were called by one of the Indian presidents partners in building the country, words that the accountants from ICAI took deep into their hearts. He added that the strength of professional accounting organizations is measured not by its size and strength, but by respect and dignity.

The 21st World Congress of Accountants was traditionally organized in cooperation with the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). Outgoing IFAC President - Alan Johnson - said during the inaugural session that in times of unprecedented turbulence and enormous challenges and uncertainties, there is an urgent and common  need for collaboration: accountants have no time to waste and must manage the crisis and be ready to seize opportunities that are coming.
